Cursillo

The Cursillo (cur SEE yo) is a Lay Catholic Movement. The purpose: to teach our friends how to live in God’s friendship. We do this in several ways:

• Friendship
• Group Reunion
• The Cursillo, or in English: The Short Study

The weekend is focused in Jesus. It begins with a silent retreat Thursday evening through Sunday afternoon. The Cursillo is more than a retreat, because the Post-Cursillo maintains our life in the spirit, to continue the practices that began on the weekend, and to persevere as Christians. A team of Laity and Spiritual Directors coordinate the weekend. One of these is a priest.

How did it start? – Young men from the Catholic Action Movement in Mallorca, a Spanish Island in the Mediterranean, were moved by the Holy Spirit to develop the Group Reunion. They were then led to develop the weekend, to teach how to do the Group Reunion. They did this under the guidance of their bishop, beginning around 1939.

Men’s Cursillos are separate from Women’s Cursillos because the way the sexes communicate is different.

Cursillo

El Cursillo es un Movimiento Católico para Laicos. Su fin es enseñar a nuestros amigos cómo vivir en amistad con Dios. Esto lo hacemos de diferentes maneras:

• Amistad
• Reunión de Grupo
• El Cursillo en si mismo

El fin de semana se enfoca en la persona de Jesús. Comienza con retiro en silencio el jueves por la noche hasta el domingo por la tarde, pero El Cursillo es más que un retiro, porque el Post-Cursillo mantiene nuestra vida en el espíritu, continuando  las prácticas que comenzaron en el fin de semana y perseverar como cristianos. Un Equipo de Laicos y Directores Espirituales coordinan el fin de semana. Uno de estos es un sacerdote.

¿Cómo comenzó El Cursillo?- Hombres jóvenes del Movimiento de Acción Católica en Mallorca, una isla española en el Mediterráneo, movidos por el Espíritu Santo desarrollaron la Reunión de Grupo. Lo hicieron bajo la dirección de su obispo, comenzando alrededor del año 1936.

Los Cursillos de hombres son separados de los Cursillos de mujeres debido a que la comunicación de los sexos es diferente.
