Stewardship

Jesus ascended to Heaven. His Apostles stood gazing upward. When He left them, it took a little while for them to understand and appreciate the power of the Holy Spirit to be conferred on them. Their anticipation of the gifts of the Spirit was clouded individually and as a group. They were a bit intimidated by His directive to convert the world. But, Jesus invites us always to join this team of His disciples. He does not leave us without support, no matter what the difficulties. The gifts of the Holy Spirit given to us individually are the talents that enable us to nurture our own faith and the faith of others—a kind of stewardship of nurturing.

Food for the Poor

Thos with last names beginning with B, F, J, N, R, V or Z are invited to bring non-perishable foods to next weekend's Masses.

Dear Friends:

SPECIAL PARISH-NEEDS COLLECTION MAY 10 AND 11

Next weekend our second collection will be for the benefit of the parish and some of the special needs that we have including boiler replacement, debt reduction, tuition assistance, and enhancement of the sound system. You will find a special envelope in today’s Bulletin for your use.

Now that the heating season is over, we will be able to have the boiler that heats the Sanctuary, Rectory and Office Space replaced. Last winter we were able to patch it up for one more season but were told that it would be its last season. The estimates for a replacement boiler that is more energy-efficient are running around $70,000.

The debt we incurred to renovate the school and parking lot, Project 2000, has a seven-year life, and we are quickly coming to the end. It would be wonderful to be able to pay it off on time—or before it’s due!

The purpose of our Tuition-Assistance Program is to make Catholic education affordable for as many children as possible. In today’s economic climate, it is becoming more and more difficult for families to afford the cost of tuition. I would love to be able to increase the amount of assistance we give, and that requires an increase in the Tuition Assistance Account.

The “humming” of the speakers and the uneven sound are the result of the mixers in the sound system “dying a slow and painful death.” Because it is a highly technical job, the price will be equally high.

Along with the needs we have, Jean Porte, our Financial Manager, has reported an increase of 3% in our income since the first of the year, and, aside from the utilities and gas expense, our expenses are well within budget. I would love it if the 3% increase is maintained and maybe even increased some more. While these are very hard economic times, the ministries that we offer touch the lives of all of our parishioners—the rich and the poor. Please be as generous as you can for this special collection.

MOTHERS’ DAY MAY CROWNING SUNDAY, MAY 11

Next Sunday, May 11, we will celebrate Mother’s Day with a special May Crowning of the Blessed Mother on the Patio. This will take place after the 11 AM Mass and before the 1 PM Mass. For those who may have forgotten that it’s Mothers’ Day, the Catechists from the afternoon Religious Education classes will be selling roses.

Baby-Bottles Fundraiser—on Mothers’ Day

The Respect-for-Life Committee will be handing out baby bottles on Mothers’ Day so that you can take them home and fill them up with change and extra money. We will collect them on Fathers’ Day. This money will benefit Project Gabriel and our own St. Anthony of Padua Mary’s House. More information about these ministries will be available on the tables after the Masses on Mothers’ Day. Every year our generous parishioners make this fundraiser a success, and we are counting on your generosity again.
