Teen Leadership Program

September 17 thru November 5, 2006

Participants will meet on Sundays, from 3:30 to 5:15 pm in the Saint Francis Cabrini Room in the Church basement. We will not meet on Sunday, October 8.

The program is made up of seven modules that address these topics:

1. Getting to Know You: The students, with Lem Truong and Carole Schloss, will identify opportunities in their school, home and social lives to act as leaders, even if they are not the recognized leaders of the group. We'll identify the qualities of leaders and why those qualities are so important.
2. Setting My Personal Goals: Lem Truong will introduce techniques for identifying your priorities and setting your goals. Students will identify their strengths and how to use those strengths in setting realistic goals. Students will develop their own goals for this program and for the school year.
3. Getting to Know Me Better: If only wishing made it so!!! No one ever achieved anything important without hard work. Pat Byrne will lead a discussion about taking control of your own life so you can achieve what you set out to do. How can you address setbacks without losing sight of your goal? And how do you anticipate or reduce the obstacles you face? Discuss your ideas with Dr. Pat!
4. Teams - They're Everywhere!: Teams aren't just for sports. Your homeroom, altar servers, Eagle Scouts, Girl Scouts ... even your family . . . every time you get together with a group of friends to plan a party, bake brownies, write a report or build a float, you're in a team! Everyone has a role in a team and your role may change, depending on the team. Maria Calacan will discuss building spirit, facing conflict and being successful in a team.
5. Talking? Writing? Acting? Listening?: There are so many ways to share your ideas. Carole Schloss will talk about the role that listening, confidence, demeanor and preparation play in good communication. You'll have an opportunity to identify those things that prevent you from being a good communicator.
